Food Matters Institute Coach Feature: Bec Russell Shares on How Studying Nutrition Changed Her Life

By Food Matters Institute

Good health is becoming a  greater challenge because there's more toxicity, more stress, and more poor quality food than ever before. We’ve lost touch with nature, and so our mission at the Food Matters Institute  is to reconnect people to what it means to be happy and healthy. We have helped thousands of people turn their lives and health around, with many going on to become coaches in nutrition and continue the ripple effect of helping others improve their health. For this article, we connected with one of our graduates, Bec, and today we are sharing her story.

Q: What inspired you to study nutrition with us? How did you hear about Food Matters first?

A: Well, it's been a long journey, that's for sure! I’ve been following Food Matters right back from the first film Food Matters in 2008. I've just always loved your work and what you share because I really feel like I can sense the energy. I can feel the passion and the desire to help other people. So that's where it started. I've been following the whole journey since then. The November 2021 intake is when I decided to finally study with you.

Q: Studying nutrition is very different from reading books and watching films. When I started studying, I realized how much of a world I unlocked. Was that a similar experience for you studying with us?

A: Definitely. And you know, I've studied other modalities, quite a few health modalities. Just because that's my own hobby and passion. I had been doing my own research, my own study… but it's one thing to sort of just dabble in it, and it’s another thing to hear from the world's leading experts that you've got inside the program. I just really loved that, and I feel that it's really trustworthy because sometimes the health space can get a little bit diluted and a little bit convoluted and a little bit confusing. So I just really felt that that was a great place for me to go to know that I was going to be getting the truthful, authentic, real information. From there, I was  able to implement that into my life and then share that with the clients that I work with, as well.

Q: Talk to me about how the journey's evolved for you moving into using the certificate in a professional way. Do you see clients one-on-one? Do you coach people in a group? What do you do now that you are qualified?

A: Yeah, so as I said, I do have a few other qualifications. What I've done is more brought the knowledge from the certification program to have it as a holistic approach. So I use everything that I've learned through my anecdotal experiences plus what I've learned through study to help my clients. I really like to be the embodiment of what I've learned before. I then share it with other people. So first it gets implemented into my life, and then I get to share it with others.

Since graduating from the program, I have published a personal development book, Life in the Soul Lane. I am also about to launch a new podcast, The Health Source, which will see me interview health, wellness, and lifestyle practitioners, facilitators, and people of influence to share their stories, wisdom, and knowledge. I am still working with clients both 1:1 and in groups to elevate their wellbeing in a grounded, wholesome, and sustainable way.

Q: What would you say for people that are sort of sitting on the fence about the course? What would you say to people that are thinking about studying the course either for themselves or to start a business?

A: Well, I always say you are never ever going to regret investing in yourself, whatever that might be, but particularly for your health. So whether it’s purely for your own knowledge and for your family's knowledge or whether you would like to pursue it as a career, you are always going to learn something. With this program, it's not just nutrition. Of course that's a really large part of it, and it's really, really important. But what I really love is that there are so many touch points- it covers meditation, essential oils, and more.

What got answered for me in this program really was just the more in depth knowledge about nutrition. I've always had my own study that I've done personally and implemented into my life, but just going that one step deeper into really understanding how you can optimize the nutrition side.

Q: Where can people find out more about you?

A: My website is just becrussell.com.
